The Government of Romania approved on Monday the Winter Program in the energy field, which aims to increase electricity consumption by 2.2% and foresees obligations to increase gas reserves by 10% and hydro reserves by 25%, announces the Ministry of Energy. The winter program is addressed to all electricity producers and producers of electricity and heat in cogeneration and is applicable from November 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.

In the past seven years, Hidroelectrica has paid taxes on milled water worth about half a billion euro (2.3 billion lei), but the state wants more money from the recalculation and retroactive payment of the royalty. Hidroelectrica paid 360 million lei taxes on milled water last year, according to data published by the company. It is the second tax paid by the company from the point of view of the amount, after the payment of the corporate income tax, in 2018, which was of 383 million lei, according to e-nergia.ro.

CEZ, a company owned by 70% of the Czech state, could give priority to the sale of its assets in Romania later this year, announced Tuesday the largest utility company in Central Europe, as part of the program for the payment of special dividends, Reuters reports. In June, the Bulgarian company Eurohold signed an agreement on the acquisition of CEZ assets in Bulgaria for 335 million euro (376 million dollars). The transaction is part of CEZ’s strategy to focus on the Czech market, according to Agerpres.

US turbine manufacturer General Electric has applied to participate in the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant, Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said. By August 19, which is the deadline for receiving offers, she expects an offer from Russia’s Rosatom, as well, Bulgarian radio BNR reported, according to Novinite. One cannot speak of a Russian project because the site and the units are Bulgarian, as well as the licenses. The two Russian reactors, which Bulgaria had purchased, will technically be able to work with US turbines as well, Minister Petkova added.
