When restrictions were lifted earlier this year there was concern about mass immigration from Romania. It proved to be unfounded, but a surprising new trend has emerged. The adoption of a joint plan of measures for the reorganization of the RADET-ELCEN centralized heating system in Bucharest was postponed after the last meeting of the ELCEN creditors’ committee, on August 7th, found the refusal of the RADET judicial administrator to enforce the decision of the RADET Creditors Committee, in May, on asset restructuring.

Turkey’s president said that the country will build a third nuclear power plant. During a live question-and-answer social media broadcast with Turkish youths, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey would build its own nuclear power plant after the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, to be built by Russia. “Akkuyu will meet 10 percent of our energy needs,” he said, adding another 10 percent or more would be met by the second nuclear power plant, which will be located in Sinop. “We will also have an opportunity to meet more than that with the third one.”

China’s threats of new tariffs on $60 billion worth of U.S. imports will create shifts in the energy market, as American liquefied natural gas makes the list of goods Beijing will target, analysts said, according to CNBC. If implemented, China’s proposed 25 percent tariff on U.S. LNG will cause shifts in the LNG market. China is the number 2 importer of LNG globally while the U.S. is climbing up the ranks of major LNG exporters.

In 2017, Romania recorded the lowest price in euro for natural gas for household consumers, among EU member states, according to data published by the European Statistics Office – Eurostat.

OMV Petrom announced it has started production from a new offshore well LVO7, drilled in the Lebada Vest field. According the company, LVO7 is the first multilateral well drilled in Romania, a new technology that allows us to reach different target zones within a reservoir through a single well.
