Romania’s economy could return to pre-pandemic levels by mid-2022, following a 3.7% increase in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021 and of 5% in 2022, after a contraction of about 5.5 % in 2020, according to a quarterly report on macroeconomic analysis and strategy of UniCredit Bank. According to the quoted source, private consumption will recover in Q2 2021, after the unemployment rate will reach its maximum level, in Q1 2021. Investments will be dominated by infrastructure spending, supported by higher inflows of European funds, which could cover the current account deficit.

Household customers who have not changed the contract will benefit from the best price from the competitive offer of their suppliers and will be able to opt for a new offer within a much simplified contracting process, according to a statement from the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) . ANRE approved the order at the meeting of the Regulatory Committee on Wednesday.

Photon Energy N.V. announced a strategic partnership with Lerta, a Polish next-generation energy company. The partnership is intended to strengthen Lerta’s business in the Polish market and expand its activities to Hungary and Romania, two of Photon Energy’s key markets. As part of this effort, Photon Energy successfully led Lerta’s second equity financing round with a PLN 4 million investment for a 12% stake, raising a total of PLN 7.5 million. The ValueTech Seed Fund also participated in this financing round, along with several other existing investors.

On the other hand, globally, in 2021 the COVID-19 pandemic is the number 1 threat in 16 countries and is among the top three risks on all continents and in 35 countries out of the 38 analyzed by Allianz.

Home energy consumers who have not changed the contract will pay in the next six months the lowest price offered by their supplier in the competitive market, and the companies have voluntarily committed to do so, the minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

Poland is accelerating its transition from fossil fuels with the construction of two new wind farms financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The EBRD is providing a loan of PLN 117 million (26 million euro-equivalent) for a project in the north-east of the country with a total installed capacity of 51.4 MW: Mława (37.4 MW), located approximately 110 km northwest of Warsaw, and Grajweo (14 MW), 60 km southwest from Suwałki. The EBRD finance will be complemented by a parallel loan from DNB.

Over 90% of the participants in a market study conducted by MOL Romania stated that they use the car as often in winter as in the rest of the year, and the time given to preparing the car for the cold season is of a maximum of 4 hours, in most cases (70%), the budget allocated for this purpose being less than 500 lei. In addition, 78% of drivers say they understand the need to use fuel specially adapted for the cold season, while over 90% of participants in this market research are convinced of the importance of using special winter tires.

The Bulgarian Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has approved the transaction through which Eurohold Bulgaria acquires the local subsidiaries of CEZ Group. The agreement includes the acquisition of seven subsidiaries of the CEZ Group in Bulgaria, including 67% of the largest electricity company – CEZ Distribution Bulgaria and the largest electricity supplier – CEZ Electro Bulgaria, 100% of the shares of the largest authorized electricity trader – CEZ Trade Bulgaria, as well as CEZ Bulgaria, which coordinates and manages all subsidiaries.
